Sub: IMAGE- Sharp Waste Management

With an objective of safe and scientific disposal of biomedical waste strictly in adherence to the Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016; “Sharp Wastes” from all Health Care Institutions are to be exclusively collected in “White, Translucent, Puncture-proof, Leak-proof, Tamper- proof Containers” as mentioned in Schedule I Part 1 of the Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016.

Accordingly, you are directed to note the following points for immediate consideration:

• The “Puncture-proof, Leak-proof and Tamper-proof containers” for the sharps can be procured by your institution from the vendors or suppliers of your choice.
• As IMAGE is following a “Barcode based biomedical waste management system”, the bar-code labels compatible to the software can be purchased from the distributors of IMA PEPS (who supplies the bar-coded Yellow & Red bags to the IMAGE affiliated Healthcare institutions). Barcode labels are to be pasted on each sharp container before handing over to the IMAGE collection team, for disposal.
• The ‘Improper-segregation of the Sharps by the HCEs’ is causing severe “needle stick injuries” repeatedly to the staff handling biomedical waste during the collection and processing in the IMAGE CBWTF Plant; and hence it’s strictly recommended that all sharps including needles & blades may be collected in “Puncture-proof, Leak-proof and Tamper-proof Containers “only.
• Any Medical Compensation & Employee’s Compensation claimed by the staff who got injured while managing the improperly segregated biomedical waste of your institution, will be forwarded to you and will be held liable for the redressal & compensation accordingly for the settlement from your side.
